At Geek Sessions, we are a non-profit community run by geeks, for geeks. Your privacy is important to us, and we believe in being 100% transparent about how we handle your data. We only collect what is necessary to keep our community running and our events awesome.

Geek Sessions is a non-profit tech community based in the Algarve, Portugal.

2. What Data We Collect & Why

We collect information to help you connect with the community and stay informed about our meetups.

  • Newsletter & Forms: When you sign up for our newsletter or contact us, we collect your name and email address.
  • Events: If you register for an event, we may collect basic info to manage attendance.
  • Discord: Our community lives on Discord. Please note that Discord has its own Privacy Policy which governs your data on their platform.
  • Analytics: We use Independent Analytics (a privacy-friendly WordPress plugin) to see how many people visit our site. This tool does not track your IP address or use personal identifiers.

3. Photography & Video at Events

Because we love sharing the “vibe” of our sessions, we often take photos and videos at our meetups.

  • Purpose: These are used for our website, YouTube channel, and social media to promote the community.
  • Your Choice: If you’d prefer not to be on camera, just let one of the organizers know at the start of an event—we’ll make sure you stay out of the frame!

4. Third-Party Services

We use a few trusted tools to keep things running:

  • WordPress Plugins: We use Complianz for cookie management and SlimSEO for SEO.
  • Hosting & Security: Our site is protected and hosted with industry-standard security measures.
  • Social Media: Links to our Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook are subject to their respective privacy policies.

5. Your Rights (GDPR)

Since we are based in Portugal, you have full rights under the GDPR:

  • Access & Export: You can ask us what data we have about you at any time.
  • Deletion (“Right to be Forgotten”): If you want us to delete your email from our list, just ask or click “unsubscribe.”
  • Correction: Need to update your info? Just send us a message.
